Belle divided her time between the rebuilding project in the Lorraine countryside and city life of Paris, where Cole and Linda Lee Porter were her neighbors on the Left Bank. Her substantial leased home at 8 Rue Monsieur in the seventh arrondissement was located midway between the Eiffel Tower, the American Church of Paris, and the celebrated cafés of Montparnasse.
